New Musical Direction

Today I decided to move in a new direction with my band-project, Late Night Motion, and instead of doing the classic sample/loop-mixing of other people's sound clips, I'll be composing everything myself. I've always wanted to do this, but finally can now that I have the software to support it.

Hopefully within the next two-three weeks (if not few days) I'll be releasing a sample song of the latest work, fresh out of the never-before-heard musical head of mine.

Late Night Motion

Based on some feedback and a little more soul-searching, I've decided on Late Night Motion as my band name. I'm definitely going to be putting a little more effort into my LNM songs (I'll say it's music for dyslexics) than my previous works, but I'll be posting here whenever I come out with something new. Maybe add a music player to the site that'll always have the latest song playing.

The image here is also a little sampling of what will possibly be the album artwork (it's just tiny enough to give you an idea at the moment). But I found this image in my collection and thought it would be good for my first "album" (which is currently unnamed).

So it is decided: Late Night Motion will be my electronic, lo-fi experiment band from here on out.

Band Names

I've been making my own music lately. This is after quite a bit of a break from 2 years ago when I started messing around with this stuff. When I first started, I went by the name of Dj MAB. But I think now it's time to make a better thought-out name for my future creations. And this is where I'm looking for input.

I've gone through a bunch of different "band name generators" and usually took the words from them instead of using the actual full names to make this list of names to decide between. So I'm asking what you think sounds the best from this list, ordered from my favorite to least favorites.

  • Late Night Motion
The whole "Late Night" thing has really got me (as you might be able to tell) and if I'm writing the Fiction here, why not have the Motion? This name hasn't been done before, either.
  • Static Motion
This name has been used, but again I like the Motion part.
  • Artificial Chaos
  • Pseudo Loop
  • City Distortion
  • 7 Nation

And here's a sample of the music I've made (both past and present).

Note that my latest song, Rainy Day, is very much so a work-in-progress. However it is definitely a good example of my latest experimentation.

More Flash Coming Sooon

I finally got Flash working on my computer again. I had been out of commission there for a while now, so I quickly fixed that with my creating a new high scores system on FlashStuf, and integrating that into my classic game, The BUTTONS.

And as this is usually the case when other people watch The Slippery Slide of Death, I've been inspired to create another one. So look out soon for episode 7 of the Slippery Slide!

Episode 7?

I recently got Flash working again and I've been thinking about doing a new Slippery Slide of Death episode. But after I look back at Episode 6, I realize that's going to be hard to top. In terms of graphics and sounds (the parts I'm usually lazy about, until last episode), I might not be motivated to put that much effort into my next episode. That is, unless I come up with a good solid idea for the next installment. At this point, though, I don't have much of a clue for what it will be about.

Currently

Now that I have a computer again I've gotten back to working on my Matt Baer Design CMS package. So, at the same time my focus is moving away from FlashStuf, unfortunately. I can develop it locally now as well (making it a lot easier and to make changes and add features), but it's becoming less of a priority as it's been developed enough to run by itself. Besides adding new things, the only thing needed to keep FlashStuf going is new content and new users. So really, that leaves me with taking care of adding any new content submitted manually.

It's also summer for me. I "officially" finished high school yesterday, and now I'm pretty much left to my own means until college in the fall. And being unemployed since the beginning of last week, well, I'd say I have all the time in the world to do all these things I do. So all in all, even though FlashStuf is moving towards the bottom of the to-do list, I'll have plenty of time to finish this package up to the status that FlashStuf is, at which point I can move back to what the "viewers" want, and get working on FlashStuf again.

Episode 6

Oh yes, I followed through and made Episode 6 of The Slippery Slide of Death last last weekend. It even got accepted on Newgrounds! To quote this site (chicken-cheese.com) on the latest episode:

I had had the idea for this episode in my head for some time now, but was only recently inspired to go ahead and actually make it. As I started the first scene, I knew right away I didn't want the simple "movement lines" that I've used every time before to show how fast the guy's moving. So I made the slide "shininess" move. I still wanted more. I added a sky background and had it fade as he went down the slide. I wanted more. I made the city in the background to give some kind of relationship, and was finally satisfied. For the rest of the episode the bar was set at that standard of actually, ya know, full color. I would have been 100% satisfied with this episode if I could've found an airplane/good splatter sound effect, but otherwise this was my favorite.

So there you have it. And this has got me going. I just may continue these episodes, with the summer coming.

More Slide Mishaps

The Slippery Slide of Death will be returning with a brand new episode! I'll be working on Episode 6 this weekend. I was recently inspired to create another episode, because of the amount of people I've seen getting joy out of blood splurting as a man falls onto a slide in combination with a random saw (in Episode 1), as of late. This will be soon, when there is more daylight/awakeness.

Simple Mistakes

I was going through my site today when I realized all the flash pages didn't show in Internet Explorer. I instantly knew what it was. Only because a week ago I was working on another site that wouldn't display a simple ad I created. Every time I had looked at my site I just figured it was Flash running slow. Turns out when I use the object tag, for the movie parameter you gotta specify the path as well as in the embed part. Luckily I had gone through that little run on the other site I was doing a week ago because I knew the problem instantly.

Thing is, the hits on FlashStuf have been steadily decreasing since right around the very beginning of January, when they were their highest. They were just falling for no apparent reason. When looking at my code of where the pages started going wrong, the very first incompatibly-coded page was made December 26. It all made sense.

This just shows how regular, constant testing is always necessary (though I'm usually pretty good about this). Especially when it's dealing with my site's main content. I must've lost tons of visitors because they figure most of the games and movies and stuff they came for isn't even showing up. Granted it was 63 pages that needed the change, but that's a huge deal considering my 150ish flash pages. Luckily I can attribute the hits-drop to that and some other reason I have no idea of. Basically, this has taught me a lesson. And I'm working on tons of other features for the site now that I know nothing big is broken (I won't be wasting my time).
